 Ethnic minorities at football
Where are they? Why is football such a 'white' sport in this country?

 Re: Ethnic minorities at football
There are plenty of black players, even we have a good proportion considering the size of the black population in Norfolk is quite small. But it seems there aren`t many Asian players even in places with a high Asain population like Birmingham, Leicester and Bradford.
I can`t remember any figures but there was a piece about it on the radio the other week.

 Re: Ethnic minorities at football
Could it be that in places with a high Asian population particularly, there is regretfully, a considerable risk of racist problems in the crowd, much as we might not like to admit it?? After all there are quite serious street problems in those towns from time to time. If there are no Asian players they don't particularly want to watch. Remember it was only when Park was signed by Manure that the Far East all started to support that club. Hence all the pre-season money making tours to that neck of the woods. Maybe....I don't know.

 Re: Ethnic minorities at football
There are more chinese people than any other nationality on the planet, do they play football? of course. Is it their national sport? probably not, therefore the one's that do play have no access to quality coaching. India, the same. As for those living or growing up in this country, the chances are that their parents discourage making a living from sport in favour of hard study, qualifications and 'secure' incomes. Many target law, the medical proffession or run independent businesses in favour of a short career which may or may not bear fruit. As for black players, the same applies, coming by and large from disadvantaged backgrounds they use their best characteristics, power, athleticism and hunger (to succeed) to propell them to the top of their sport.
