 Would you boo John Terry?
Probably should be on other board as not NCFC, but I am off to see England v Egypt tonight - a lot is being said about the expected booing of Terry by the crowd. Me, I wont boo, but I think I will probably keep quiet when his name is read out. Just curious what you think about it.....bearing in mind this is the last home game before the World Cup and we should be giving them a right royal send-off.

Re: Would you boo John Terry?
No I wouldn't. The French tart was Bridge's ex for God's sake . He had left her and his baby and gone to Manchester City. If he doesn't want to play for England....good riddance. He needs to grow up. He's a pretty ordinary LB anyway.

Yes, they are all 'tarts'...(would this be construed as defamation of character?)

Re: Would you boo John Terry?
I like to see England do well in all sports and was pleased to see them beat Egypt, having said that, the idea of seeing John Terry lift the World Cup does not appeal, indeed most of his team mates are of the same ilk and for the first time in my life I don't feel that the players we're sending out there are 'doing it for us'
Of course should they win it they'll all get an invite to No10, whoever is in charge, photos with polititians, pop stars and TV celebs will be all over the papers. Then a trip to Buck House for Knighthoods, OBE's and MBE's
Once all the 'niceties' are over it'll be time to milk it for all it's worth, book launches and signings, interviews on Johnathon Woss, adverts for Pizzas and Crisps oh, in case I forget their agents will go back to their clubs demanding a significant increase to their salary, now they have a World Cup winner on the books.
There was a time when I hoped we'd go one step further, or even go all the way, this time it seems more than ever that their 3 weeks by the pool will be exactly that.

Oh come on..... how many players at any level are "doing it for us"? Name a player that wouldn't take the opportunities a world cup win (or penalty miss) would offer.

Re: Would you boo John Terry?
The word you've conveniently ignored MB is 'feel'... I know they've got a Ferrari to run and a WAG to keep but back in 66 when Geoff Hurst ran from the half way line, having already given his all for 120 minutes to score the fourth goal, you just 'felt' he was doing it for England, against the Germans.
Do you think any of todays lot would be so inclined? I remember when Gary Neville threatened to take the players out on strike a few years ago... wouldn't have happened in Bobby Moore's day, players were proud to play for their country.
As for their behaviour, I don't recall Ray Wilson having an affair with Jack Charlton's missus or Nobby Stiles smuggling a string of girls into the team hotel ala Cashley Cole. Truth is we've given them fame and fortune and it's gone to their heads.
Playing for their country is no longer an honour, it's a chore to be endured but as long as they're getting paid what the hell.

Re: Would you boo John Terry?
I'm afraid I dont understand your point Splendid, I didn't ignore any word conveniently or otherwise.
And nor do I see Rooney putting any less effort in than Hurst.... probably drinks a lot less. The late 60's were the hey day of the Chelsea glamour boys, drunken races down the Kings Road, Jimmy Greaves on benders, George Best spending half his money on women and 'booze'.....and "wasting the rest". A skinfull the night before a game, a fag at half time. Happy days eh?
The mid 60's saw the biggest fixing scandal in our history, over 100 players and a dozen clubs involved.
I could go on. If you seriously think it was any different then, I'm afraid we'll agree to differ. People dont change, we just hear more about what they get up to.

Re: Would you boo John Terry?
Spot on MB. A player can`t fart these days without it being on You tube or in the Sun. We live in an age of instant news. Go back to the 70`s in my case and all you got was the back page of the paper and Granstand or World of Sport.
The players of the 70`s are earning a good living with their after dinner speaking about the things they got upto. The other thing with this is they have to do it to earn that living, no retiring at 33 with millions in th bank for them.
Now we have 24 hours sports channels, internet sites and all sorts of magazines that have time and pages to fill. We had shoot magazine and Panini stickers

Re: Would you boo John Terry?
Fair point, well made MB, the Best and Greavsie era came just after the end of salary capping (Jimmy Hill has a lot to answer for) before which, most players had a job AND played football. The sudden increase in salaries meant that, for the first time these guys were well rewarded and they didn't know how to handle it.
Todays 'superstars' are picked up, some as early as 6 years old, and groomed for years, not just playing the game, but their education is taken care of, they are taught how to handle the media and there is an expectation that with the talent comes the riches. So it's not like they're unprepared for the gifts we bestow upon them.
They have agents looking after their interests, financial advisors as well as all the support their clubs give them. I guess, utimately, this touches on whether we regard football as a sport, or a business. Back then, they behaved as they did because they knew no better, today they should know better but behave appallingly anyway.

Re: Would you boo John Terry?
They're kids Splendid. Usually poorly educated, from backgrounds none too cosy.
25, more money, cocaine and girls than you can handle .........I'm amazed they are as well behaved as they are. Its a credit really to the management structure of the clubs how little does leak out to the press I think
